In Home Newborn Photography FAQ

I went through the most frequently asked questions families have about having newborn photos taken at home, and put a detailed list together for parents-to-be.

What is the best age to take photos?

I recommend taking photos right around 2 weeks if you want the tiny, sleepy baby phase. 5-8 weeks is wonderful if you’d like more time to settle in. Babies are also usually more filled out and alert in those later weeks. We usually avoid 3-4 weeks old as many babies will develop ‘baby acne’ at that time.

How do we schedule if we don’t know when our baby will be born?

I'll put your estimated due date down in my calendar and we can adjust as needed. I just ask that you let me know in the first few days after your baby is born and we’ll schedule a morning for me to come over.

How do I prepare for photos?

Once you’ve paid the session fee I will email a prep guide so you know what to wear, what your baby should wear, and all the important details about how our morning together will go.

Where in my home will we take photos?

When I arrive I’ll ask for a quick tour to see what rooms have the best natural light. We’ll usually take photos in the living room, a bedroom, and the nursery if you have one set up. Please don’t worry about having a perfectly tidy home- nobody actually does ;) I am the master of putting the focus on your connection with your family and not what your home looks like.

How long is the session?

Most sessions take 1-1.5 hours. We will probably take breaks for diaper changes and feeding. I don’t have a strict work flow and am flexible to leave space for authentic moments, but I will guide you to make sure you get a variety of photos with all the family combinations in a convenient about of time.

I’m keeping photos of my baby off social media, is that ok?

Absolutely, I work with many families who choose not to share their photos. I only share photos with written permission.
